Let the fun begin: Tyson Fury attempts early mind games with David Haye

The 24-year-old was unrepentant in his customary tongue-lashing towards Haye. Fury promised to ‘step on him on his way to defeating ‘the pensioner or the robot’ about the all-conquering Klitschko brothers.

The press conference’s main focus was at the head-to-head. Media awaited the usual eye contact to suss out any pre-fight nerves.

However, Fury blankly refused to participate as he attempted to conduct media proceedings at the Park Plaza.

Haye, 32, was visibly upset with Fury’s antics at one point. In the end, he backed away as the 6ft 9ins bruiser made sure all eyes were on him. Firstly, by sitting down before standing on a chair to avoid the situation.

Fury then joked that his reasons for not seeing through the staredown were because Haye was ‘too scary’ – although most would have known it was just his way of controlling a portion of the formalities the best way he could.

Whatever happens from now, the seed has been sown, and the animosity levels are only set to rise from here as both had derogatory words to say on the other – with more to come over the next ten weeks.
