49-fight Jones steps into the ring with IBF-ranked Kell Brook on July 13 for the second time in his career after pushing the undefeated Briton all the way last summer in Sheffield before losing out on a majority decision.
The Oklahoma-native has the opportunity to put himself right in the mix at 147 next month as Brook was on the verge of an IBF title bout with Alexander until injury forced him to withdraw. The 26 year-old is confident he can overcome ‘The Special One’ this time around and sees nothing special in either Alexander or Khan, who could both be possibilities down the line.
“Well I think Brook’s decision to pull out of the Alexander fight was the worst decision of his life,” Jones told World Boxing News.
“I mean not only once, but twice he pulled out. If it was me and my little pinkie toe was injured, I wouldn’t have even thought about pulling out. Lets face it world title shots don’t come around everyday.
“I honestly think if Brook would’ve fought Devon that night he would’ve stopped him as Devon is highly overrated and cant punch any harder than my four year old son.
“When it comes to Amir, of course I would like to fight him. In fact I want him right after Brook if things don’t work out with Alexander. I have actually watched a few interviews with Khan kind of talking down on me and I am thinking to myself; ‘this is a guy who cant even make it out of one fight without touching the canvas,’ so I would have no problems with taking a fight with him.”
Brook, also 26, has kept a low-profile since the disappointment of losing out on a world title shot and will hope to come back with a bang at Craven Park in Hull, although Jones will certainly have something to say about that when the two square-up again next month.
