Super-8 champ Mchunu heads Van Heerden v Hatton SA v UK world title undercard

Showpony Promotions CEO Damian Michael has revealed to WBN some of the undercard for the forthcoming IBO welterweight title bout between champion Chris Van Heerden and challenger Matthew Hatton in South Africa.

Johannesburg-born southpaw Van Heerden, 25, defends his title for the second time on top billing for the March 2 clash with Englishman Hatton – as the card features a South Africa v UK flavour throughout.

In chief support, recent Super-8 cruiserweight champion Thabiso Mchunu will return for the first time since his November triumph in the tournament where claimed victory with a stoppage in every round, and now tackles Welshman Hari Miles.

Preston’s Matty Clarkson will travel out of his North-West base for the first time in his career when he battles South African light-heavyweight champion Tshepang Mohale, whilst heavyweights Elvis Moyo and Osborne Machimana will also battle it out.

The will be an added celebrity flavour at the 5000 capacity Sandton Convention Center as ex rugby internationals Carlos Spencer and Andries Human battle it out in the ring, rather than on the pitch in an intriguing encounter.
