Stiverne lost his title January 2015 after he lost on points as Wilder then became the first American to hold a world heavyweight title since 2006.
The 38 year-old (25-2-1, 21 KOs) has been the toughest fight for Wilder thus far. He has been the only opponent to go the distance against a hard-hitting Wilder. After beating Stiverne, Wilder since then has successfully defended the title five times.
The November 4th fight was originally set for Stiverne to be fighting on the undercard against Dominic Breazeale. The Haitian was already the mandatory challenger for Wilder’s WBC belt. However, when the Wilder-Ortiz card was called off because of Ortiz’s failed substance test, Stiverne without hesitation stepped up to avenge his loss in the main event.
Stiverne has been training very hard to get his crown back, after winning it the first time around in 2014 against Chris Arreola. Stiverne was the first Haitian-born boxer to win a world heavyweight championship, as well as the first out of the province of Quebec, to win the WBC world heavyweight championship. After losing against Wilder, Stiverne has bounced back with a win over Derric Rossy and is hungry for another revenge with Wilder.
The Wilder-Stiverne II will be the 10th heavyweight world championship fight to air live on Showtime in the last two years as heavyweight. The event is presented by Premier Boxing Champions from Barclays Center, the home of Brooklyn Boxing.
