The self-professed ‘Gypsy King’ last fought in November of 2015 and has since been dogged by rumours of failed drugs tests and his own problems with drugs and alcohol.
Despite already announcing a failed comeback in 2017, Fury has now stated in his latest interview with BoxNation that a return to the ring may not be on the cards.
“My time was two years ago,” he told Steve Lillis.
“If I come back there will be an announcement but if I don’t then goodbye.
“For this game, you’ve gotta really love it and want it – you’ve gotta be very, very hungry.
“I’m undefeated – second in history of heavyweight champions to retire unbeaten behind Rocky Marciano.
“I’ve unified the full division, beat the man who couldn’t be beaten – do I need to do any more?”
Fury’s win over Wladimir Klitschko has since been overshadowed by UK rival Anthony Joshua, with whom as blockbuster clash had been mooted for 2018.
Without a training regime or a comeback date in place though, Fury is in danger of going off the rails against as the British Boxing Board of Control delay a hearing on his possible reinstatement until October.
That could mean a period of over two years out for Tyson by the time he actually secures a fight, which could spell the end of his career to the dismay of some British fans.
