Adonis Stevenson confirms June 3 rematch with Andrzej Fonfara

Stevenson was expected to face Seanie Monaghan after requesting permission from the WBC to delay a mandatory against Eleider Alvarez, although Fonfara has now been named as the Haitian-Canadian’s next foe.

Premier Boxing Champions will organize the event, which Stevenson revealed will be accompanied by a top-class undercard.

“It’s now official, on June 3rd (I will) rematch against Andrzej Fonfara in Canada. The undercard will be interesting as well,” stated Stevenson.

The pair traded blows in May 2014 at The Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec with Stevenson eventually seeing out a unanimous decision which wasn’t as straightforward as the scorecards suggested.

Although Fonfara was down in round one, he dropped Stevenson in the ninth before going down 116-109, 115-110 (twice) on the cards.

Fonfara had recently called out Nathan Cleverly for a second fight to WBN, stating his willingness to travel to the UK, although the opportunity to battle Stevenson in a revenge big has taken precedent for the Pole.

Since losing to Stevenson first time around, Fonfara has scored eye-catching victories over Cleverly, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and more recently Chad Dawson but did suffer a shocking first round reverse against Joe Smith Jr. in June of last year, having been dropped twice en route to a fourth career loss.
