‘GGG’ annihilated a current world champion in eight one-sided rounds to become a three-belt world title holder and is now widely regarded as one of the best two active fighters in the world, alongside Roman Gonzalez.
The 33 year-old has never gone past 11 rounds throughout his entire 34-fight career and Loeffler is insistent that Golovkin will be the dominant force at middleweight for the duration of his stay in the division.
“I don’t think there is anyone at 160 that can go the distance with GGG because of his punching power, aggressive style and uncanny ability to cut off the ring,” Loeffler exclusively told World Boxing News.
Golovkin’s victory has set-up a mouth-watering battle against the winner of next month’s WBC title clash between Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez, although Loeffler struggled to split the two when asked his opinion on the contest.
“Cotto and Canelo are both great warriors, but I’d probably lean towards Canelo because of his youth and physical strength. Saying that, it would not surprise me if Cotto won based on his experience and ring savvy – especially with Freddy guiding his training now.”
One fighter who has Golovkin firmly on his radar is Chris Eubank Jr, who currently holds the interim belt to Golovkin’s full WBA version. An encounter between the two is seen as the first logical step once the unification process with Cotto /Canelo is complete as Loeffler wants the title situation cleared up before they contemplate a mandatory offering opposite Eubank.
“Because of GGG’s mandatory position for the winner of Cotto/Canelo, we really can’t plan anything regarding other titles before that fight is over,” explained Loeffler.
“Golovkin facing the winner of that fight is his highest priority at the moment and what we worked hard to position GGG for.
“Chris Eubank Jr is doing well and is increasing his profile in the UK all the time, so I could definitely see him as a future fight for GGG,” he added.
Eubank, 26, faces American also-ran Tony Jeter this weekend in Sheffield, England in defence of his interim championship and was recently quoted as stating that he wanted a meeting with Golokvin within the next two years.
