WBO want Kovalev v Yarde mandatory cleared up in days following delay

The World Boxing Organization have called a new purse bid for a light-heavyweight title clash between Sergey Kovalev and Anthony Yarde.

Despite a previous purse bid date of April 8, and an initial agreement between both sides, no movement has taken place since.

This has led to the WBO announcing a new date. Offers should then be made by interested parties.

Kovalev will be unable to face other opponents until Yarde is dealt with. Any alternative attempts would see the Russian stripped of his title.

Yarde has worked his way to mandatory status and wants the fight. This is despite some believing it’s a little too early for the Briton.

Releasing a statement on the matter, which is said to have arisen from a lack of communication, the WBO want things cleared up this week.

CLEVERLY

Promoter Frank Warren is keen for his man to be given the opportunity. He hopes to bring Kovalev over to the UK for the second time.

Kovalev previously dethroned Nathan Cleverly of the strap back in 2013. The loss was the first of Cleverly’s career.

‘Krusher’ would go on to unify the division. Kovalev then lost out against Andre Ward three years later.
