Canelo Alvarez misses out on Pound for Pound Top spot, Loma stands firm

New middleweight king Canelo Alvarez has jumped back into the Pound for Pound Top five for the first time since failing a drugs test.

The Mexican was riding high in the top ten for several years until being flagged for Clenbuterol and handed a suspension.

Canelo’s six-month ban left no choice but to remove the two-weight world ruler from his lofty position until an impressive win over Gennady Golovkin over the weekend.

A Las Vegas rematch saw Canelo and Golovkin trade blows in a classic battle for twelve rounds, with either fighter claiming victory.

In the end, it was Canelo who took the spoils and the 160-pound belt, leaving a trilogy fight as a major option.

Calls for Canelo to be labeled the number one on the planet have since been heard. However, Vasyl Lomachenko remains number one on the WBN list.

The current WBN Fighter of the Year, Lomachenko, has achieved an unbelievable amount in just under five years as a pro.

A triumph over Jorge Linares cemented his place in May and keeps the Ukrainian above Canelo…but only just.

Mikey Garcia drops to third, whilst Golovkin himself only gives way to Canelo from fifth to sixth.
