Exclusive: Mauricio Sulaiman talks Francisco Vargas injury, next move

Highly entertaining battles with Takashi Miura in 2015 – and more recently Orlando Salido, have catapulted Vargas to new heights in the sport, meaning fans and media alike are patiently awaiting the next move of the WBC super-featherweight champion with anticipation.

Sulaiman, like most, has been impressed by Vargas during his rise through the ranks and believes fights against his two most recent foes will be on the agenda once ‘El Bandido’ returns from injury.

“Francisco Vargas is one of the most exciting fighters of today,” Sulaiman exclusively told World Boxing News.

“He enjoyed a Fight of the Year with Takashi Miura and then possibly again with Orlando Salido. It’s always dramatic and those two fights can probably be made again in the coming year.

“There are lots of possibilities in that division for Vargas in rematches with Miura and Salido, plus Micky Roman who is the mandatory challenger. The possibilities are endless and it’s a very exciting time.

“Hopefully his injuries heal and he is ready to continue everything,” he added.

Vargas is yet to taste defeat in 25 contests, with two draws on his record and 17 big wins by way of knockout.

Both potential opponents, Miura and Salido are in contention to be in the opposite corner to Vargas, hopefully by the late spring or early summer, either of which would be great additions to the 2017 boxing calendar.
