Josh Burke aims for revenge versus Courtney Richards on Jan 30

The 29 year old is keen to rattle up the wins and make up for lost time having only made his professional debut in October last year.

“I first started boxing when I was 23 and I had my first amateur fight in 2011,” Burke told” I have taken a while to turn pro but I always aimed to do it eventually. I had a few amateur fights to make sure I was ready and now I am raring to go.”

Burke lost to Richards in the amateurs two years ago but is confident of turning the tables in Devon despite Plymouth Pugilist, Richards, having the home advantage.

“When I lost to him in the amateurs it was a very tight contest and it could have gone either way,” added Burke. “I am training extra hard to ensure I turn the earlier defeat around. I have much more experience now and I am sure we will both be bringing more to the table. It will definitely be a great fight.

“I have fought in Plymouth before as an amateur, so it isn’t new territory. I am looking forward to getting back in the ring and hopefully it will be a sell-out crowd. It is a challenge to be travelling so far away from home but I have done it before so I will be absolutely fine and buzzing to get going and get another win on my record.”

“Preparation has been brilliant, I have kept my head down and I am fully ready for the fight. I have sparred with a few different partners which has given me plenty of rounds under my belt. Next week I will train to the maximum again before I wind down to be fresh for January 30th.”

Plymouth’s Chris Adaway tops the bill against Londoner Danny Parsons for the British Challenge Super Lightweight Title whilst fellow Plymouth pugilist, super middleweight, Cristian Hoskin-Gomes, takes on Stoke’s Mark Till whilst Plymouth resident Darren ‘The Terminator’ Townley will be looking to make it a hat-trick of professional victories when the super lightweight takes on Luton’s Duane Grimes.

Plymouth’s Ben Zacharwiz (lightweight), Ross Roberts (super lightweight), Jack Bellingham (welterweight) and Louis Aitken (super lightweight) complete the card.
