Lee v Saunders – Undercard results from Manchester Arena

Kelly enjoyed some early success against Smith, although the superior quality of the champion eventually shone through in the mid-rounds.

Smith unleashed a ferocious combination in the seventh round to rock Kelly against the ropes and the home fighter was forced to take a count.

A second onslaught from Smtih had the corner scampering to throw in the towel as ‘Beefy’ made a successful first defence of his belt.

It was apparent from the off that Tommy Langford was a class above tough Pole Robert Swierzbinski and it showed throughout the five rounds the fight lasted.

Langford, buoyed by his legion of fans, battered Swierzbinski around the ring until the fight was halted in the fifth on the back of three knockdowns.

Earlier, Mitchell Smith struggled to impose himself on George Jupp for the duration of their super featherweight ten rounder and was eventually defeated on the scorecards.

The 23 year-old had been impressive in putting together a 13-0 record since turning pro but faces a rebuilding job and a potential rematch against the Southern Area champion following a tough night.

Jupp, 25, was rightly handed the decision 98-94, 97-93 and 96-94 as the Belvedere man improves to 13-2 with a career-best triumph.

The returning Liam Williams added the British super welterweight title to his Commonwealth version with a crushing win over Kris Carslaw. Williams was back in action having been told his career could be over due to a hand injury, but showed no signs of any problems in dealing with Carslaw.

A big attack at the end of the first round had Carslaw down, although it was a stunning jab early in the second that completely ended the argument.

At super flyweight, Paul Butler was on top form and too much for Romanian-Spaniard Silvio Olteanu. Butler was in cruise control for the majority of the contest until stopping Olteanu in the sixth.

Thomas Stalker and Craig Evans drew again after the ringside judges failed to split them in their rematch. The pair have now fought 20 rounds without an eventual winner following cards of 96-94 to Evans and 95-95 twice.

Former Stalker conqueror Jack Catterall made short work of Noe Nunez with a third round stoppage to improve his record to 14-0.

Joe Selkirk, Anthony Yarde and Raza Hamza all secured first round victories over routine opposition, whilst Indian superstar Vijender Singh improved to 3-0 with a second round stoppage of Samet Hyuseinov.
