Mundine confirms Mosley offer for Australia clash

The 38 year-old has decided to head back to light-middleweight on the back of his loss to 160lb compatriot Daniel Geale in January and now hopes to entice the veteran American to move up from welterweight once again.

Mosley, 41, has recently returned from announcing his retirement from boxing, but did stipulate that he would be staying at 147lb limit meaning a fight with Mundine may well come down to money or prestige.

The three-weight world title holder recorded his first win in four years against Pablo Cesar Cano in Mexico earlier this month and now has a decision to make as to whether a clash with ‘The Man’ is in his future.

“Both parties are talking as I want the fight with Mosley,” Mundine told World Boxing News.

“God willing we can get the deal done as it would be massive for Oz boxing and world boxing in general.”

Mundine, who has already set his sights on the winner of Mayweather v Canelo, then went on: “I want to give the fans a mega fight. I don’t want to fight the fringe contenders. I want the best or the guys that are legends in the sport like ‘Sugar’ Shane.

“It would be an honour to fight a legend like him and I hope the fight gets done as I want to go on fighting for my own legacy.

“We have offered all we can to make it happen, so now it’s just waiting for the response.”
