Chad Dawson and Adonis Stevenson in advanced talks

Stevenson, 35, had originally agreed to step aside to allow Carl Froch to defend his IBF belt against WBA champion Mikkel Kessler on May 25, with the stipulation that the Briton vacates the belt immediately after.

‘Superman’ is then set to fight for the vacant title sometime in June, but could now move up to challenge for the WBC light-heavyweight title currently held by Dawson, and according to Michel, talks are going well.

“We are in a good direction with Gary Shaw to seal the deal shortly,” Michel told World Boxing News when specifically asked about the fight happening.

There are rumours the potential bout could now happen on the same night as Froch v Kessler II if both sides can reach an agreement, with an announcement expected to be made by Michel and Shaw upon the conclusion of negotiations.
