Van Heerden promised US bout with Hatton victory

According to Showpony Promotions boss Damian Michael, there has already been contact Stateside and Van Heerden can expect to be in the mix with the best at 147lbs with an impressive win next month.

“I’ve started negotiating with people in America for Chris and all he needs now is to beat Hatton,” Michael told World Boxing News.

“I’ve been speaking to Main Events and K2 and the next chapter must be on an international platform.

“Don’t underestimate this kid as come March 2, the world will know we mean business. Paul Malignaggi, Zab Judah or Amir Khan – we will fight anyone!” he added.

Van Heeden, 25, is currently 18-1-1, with his only loss coming in a highly contentious split decision defeat against Serbian Nikola Stepanovic in Belgrade three years ago.

The draw on Van Heerden’s record was impressively avenged, meaning ‘The Heat’ could have been sporting a perfect 20-0 record and will aim to prove he has the ability to back it up when he lines up against Hatton in three weeks’ time.
