Recently signing with Mehdi Ameur, the ex-amateur star defeated Giorgi Urjumelashvili with ease after being likened to ‘a mixture of Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko’ before the contest.
Speaking exclusively told World Boxing News in the wake of his maiden victory, the 25 year-old puncher is looking forward to building his reputation.
“It felt great to get inside the ring and fight. Everything went really well. We had a great training camp in Alabama under the guidance of my new coach Dave Godber and managed to get some word class sparring at the Deontay Wilder camp,” Thun explained.
“I’m looking forward to the next training camps, sparring sessions and then to show the results of the hard work in upcoming fights, which are my daily motivation. We are looking at staging six fights for me this year.
“This first year, we will be getting used to the 4 and 6 rounds and to the professional style of boxing, but next year we are confident to be fighting ten rounders and stepping up our opponents.
“In 2020 we will be at world Level for sure,” he added.
Asked his thought on the current star of the division in the debate over Joshua or Wilder, Thun stated he sided with the Briton.
“The best heavyweight as of now is Anthony Joshua. Of course we could debate for hours who is better, AJ or Wilder, but Joshua, as of now, is the one filling up huge arenas such as Wembley stadium.
“Together with his knockout skills and charismatic persona, he makes my personal number one choice.”
On what he plans to work on before his next outing, Thun concluded: “I am a really tall therefore we want to keep our fighting at long range.
“Our aim is to be a very ‘punch-active- fighter using angles and to establish our left hand as one of the most educated left hands in boxing.
“Jab, jab, jab, left hook, hook to the body, jab,” he said.
