The super-middleweight star was taken ill last week after a sparring session and two doctors in his native Sweden have now commented on his situation.
“He cannot breathe on his own if he has major brain injuries. Then he must be put in a coma again with a respirator,” Dr. Sanna Neselius explained to Expressen.
“He’s in a coma right now, and that’s where he needs to be. The patient is being examined to see if bleeding is under control,” Neselius added.
WBN have also learned attempts will be made to awaken the former European champion soon.
Another physician then confirmed what we already knew, Skoglund’s boxing career was over.
“After a brain haemorrhage, he can no longer get a boxing license in Sweden.”
Meanwhile, the WBA revealed more news from doctors as they, along with the World Boxing Council, wished Skoglund well in his recovery.
“The World Boxing Association family sends its best wishes for a speedy recovery to the Swedish boxerErikk Skoglund, who felt bad and was taken to the hospital after a training session in Nyköping, Sweden.
“The fighter comes from losing to Callum Smith last September. He had to undergo surgery to stop the bleeding in his brain and the doctors said they were satisfied with the results. The next few days are very important for his recovery.
“The WBA family wishes a speedy and satisfactory recovery for Skoglund.”
The WBC added: “WBC Super middlewight world ranked number 6, Erik Skoglund (26-1, 12 KOs), who distinguished himself with a marvellous fight against Callum Smith as part of the Word Boxing Super Series tournament in September, was taken to the hospital after falling ill , following a sparring session in Nyköping, Sweden.
“Erik was placed in an induced coma by doctors and then underwent surgery to remove a blot clot on the brain. Erik remains in a difficult but stable condition. The next few days will be absolutely critical for his recovery.
“The entire World Boxing Council and its President Mauricio Sulaiman, send their best wishes and prayers for Erik’s recovery.”
