Mayweather at 40 years old will put his 49-0 record and legacy on the line against a fighter who has never fought as a professional boxer.
McGregor makes the transition from MMA as a two-weight title holder and has some experience of boxing from his younger fighting days.
Venue
After initial talks to stage at the MGM Grand, the fight is set to take place at the close-by T-Mobile Arena (also owned by MGM Grand). The event will be Mayweather’s debut at the newly-built facility once an agreement is reached to switch Ice Cube’s BIG3 show already booked for that weekend.
Rounds
Mayweather v McGregor will be fought over 12 rounds.
Weight
The fight is agreed at 154 pounds – Super welterweight.
Title
None of the current sanctioning bodies have backed the contest as yet, with the WBC, WBA and IBO already making their feelings known that the fight should only be an exhibition.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission have welcomed the fight though, meaning Mayweather will push to 50-0 if successful.
