Jose Sulaiman amateur tournament kicks off in Mexico

The President of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaiman, accompanied by the Director of the Metro of Mexico City, Jorge Gaviño, inaugurated the competition at the Metro headquarters located in the Ramos Millán neighborhood.

The eager and evolving youngsters were sagely observed by ring legends Carlos Zarate, Rafael Herrera, Pipino Cuevas, Víctor Rabanales and Lupe Pintor, who was recently inducted into the Canastota International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Other attending stars, were Edgar “Power” Jiménez, Irma “Torbellino” García, Alejandra “Tigre” Jiménez, Saul “Baby” Juarez and Mariana “Barby” Juarez.

Tournament Director Carlos Zarate, commented: “With all my heart I’m working to innovate and improve aspects of this already great tournament. I feel great as I’m achieving it.”

This extravaganza which an important barometer of emerging boxing talent, has attracted 260 young amateur boxers, who will compete during the next five Sundays. The winners will be presented with a Belt endorsed by the WBC.

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman says he’s delighted and encouraged to see young fighters practicing real amateur boxing, commenting: “ This is boxing! All the great fighters, whoever they are, will come from here!”
