Highly-rated flyweight contender Andrew Selby (9-0-0 – 5KOs) will headline against Mexico’s hard-hitting Maximino Flores (23-3-1 – 16KOs) both made weight at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane ahead of their much-anticipated WBC World Flyweight eliminator on Saturday night (October 7) at York Hall.
The title-chasing pair will square off at the top of an action-packed bill, which will be shown live on Channel 5 and is sponsored by MaxiNutrition, Ladbrokes and Voltarol.
At the media workout at McGuigan Gym in Wandsworth, South London, both Selby and Flores looked relaxed and confident as they were put through paces in front of large media presence. It was much the same again today as neither man flinched during their pre-fight face off.
Mexican contender Flores weighed in at 7 stone, 13 pounds and 2 ounces, before Wales’ Selby tipped the scales at 7 stone, 13 pounds and 5 ounces. Both men looked composed as they then faced off at the famous London venue, with the scene set for a fantastic flyweight showdown tomorrow evening.
The vacant Commonwealth cruiserweight title will be on the line in the chief support contest tomorrow evening. The two undefeated challengers, Robin Dupre and Luke Watkins both comfortably made the 14 stone, 4 pound limit at today’s weigh-in. Dupre weighed 14 stone, 3 pounds, while Watkins was just over a pound lighter at 14 stone, one pound and 6 ounces.
Following an injury to original opponent Tony Dixon, Reading’s Asinia Byfield now faces Hungary’s hugely experienced Gabor Gorbics, who recently challenged Liam Williams for the WBO European super welterweight title, tomorrow night at York Hall. Byfield didn’t let this distract his preperations as he looked in fantastic condition and weighed in at 11 stone and six ounces. Gorbics, 23 (14) – 8, was just over a pound heavier at 11 stone, 1 pound.
Northampton’s explosive talent Chantelle Cameron and her French opponent Bilitis Gaucher, both made the lightweight limit ahead of their eight-round contest tomorrow night. Cameron weighed 9 stone, 8 pounds, while Gaucher tipped the scales at 9 stone, 8 pounds and 6 ounces.
