Avni Yildirim eyes WBSS triumph before facing Dirrell or Benavidez
Risking Turkish star Avni Yildirim, who’s the World Boxing Council super middleweight International Champion, is staking his belt and number one Contender status to fight in the WBC’s prestigious Super Series Tournament.
Avni’s Promoter and Manager Ahmed Oner says: “As Mandatory Challenger, Avni is risking his position, by fighting in this tournament. And after it’s finished, he’s ready to fight Anthony Dirrell or whoever.”
Dirrell was recently confirmed to be competing against David Benavidez for the vacant WBC title on September 9.
Avni, who’s not worried about taking on anyone, anywhere, anytime, came to Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico to fight popular, skilled and experienced Marco Antonio Periban for the vacant WBC International super middleweight crown, on May 13th.
In a tremendous all action battle royal, Avni knocked down Marco in the eleventh round and went on to win a unanimous decision.
Avni aged 25, is undefeated in 16 fights. Nicknamed “Mr. Robot” Avni’s ended ten of them via KO, by connecting right on the button.
Yildirim has been drawn against Chris Eubank Jr. in the quarter-final before a battle against George Groves or Jamie Cox in the semis.
