Kovalev v Stevenson: Champions inform WBC of desire to fight
World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman reports that the WBC will continue to do whatever needs to be done to try to make Adonis Stevenson vs. Sergey Kovalev a reality for the unification of all championship belts in the light heavyweight division.
President Sulaiman met Kovalev last weekend at Madison Square Garden and Sergey, who won the coveted WBC Diamond Belt, confirmed his desire to fight Stevenson, and claimed that is the only fight he cares about and wants.
Today, the WBC reached out to Stevenson, and he said that he has the exact same feeling and wishes – that he only wants to fight Kovalev immediately.
The WBC will fully support and invite the promoters and managers of both fighters to sit down and make this fight happen.
The WBC Annual Convention will be held in Kunming, China, from November 1 to November 7, and each division status will be reviewed during that time.
Hopefully, by then there will be good news about Stevenson vs. Kovalev being a reality.
