Retired Wladimir Klitschko reveals he could be persuaded to fight again

The 42-year-old, who stepped away from the ring the following defeat to Anthony Joshua in April last year, recently embarked on a promotional tour of a new documentary on the epic contest.

Klitschko dropped Joshua and looked on the verge of stopping the Briton until the younger, fresher champion fought back to force a stoppage of his own.

Since then, ‘Dr. Steelhammer has been linked to possible return fights, although the man himself says that would only be in an exhibition capacity.

“Well, I was right with that quote! You never say never. Things can change,” Klitschko told 112.international in an interview this week.

“People often switch careers during their lifetimes. Look at Arnold Schwarzenegger: he was an athlete, then an actor, then a politician, then a businessman, and now he’s involved in taking care of the planet.

“Maybe if I feel the time is right to help a certain charity, I’ll get back in the ring.

“I had great times in the 27 years I spent in the sport. I learned a lot and I traveled a lot, which was my goal when I first started boxing.

“I have achieved what I never dreamed of; I’ve done and experienced things that I had never even thought about.

“I’ve learned that when some doors close, others open. It’s all life experience and sport really is amazing.

“I would quote Nelson Mandela: “Sport has the power to change the world because it’s a global thing,” he added.

With former foe Tyson Fury ready to embark on a comeback of his own, any potential Klitschko revenge mission seems to be off the cards…at least for now.
