As Bermane Stiverne nears the first defense of his WBC heavyweight title against undefeated challenger Deontay Wilder, ‘The Alien’ has welcomed the return of a massive top division clash to US shores and is looking forward to an explosive contest.

“We know that the drought in the heavyweight division has gone on long enough, and I believe that this Saturday, whoever wins this is going to be talked about,” said Hopkins. “I don’t see this going 12 rounds. This is good for boxing.”

Hopkins, who recently lost his world titles to Sergey Kovalev, also revealed his pleasure that these kinds of huge fights can be made in his home country and hopes this recent trend continues.

“I’m here in Las Vegas, (celebrating) my 50th birthday. I get to be here sharing it with Don King and all of you in this sport that I passionately love so much.

“This is about a sport that gave me a second chance in life. I put the challenge out to everyone in the sport. Let’s do what is right for the people who buy our sport.”
