BBBofC Secretary Robert Smith had stated he wouldn’t consider Fury’s request to get reinstated until January, which was met with fire by the former world heavyweight champion, who hastily deleted his Instagram post.
“I’ve not held a BBBofC boxing license since I fought Klitschko two years ago. Who knows? I might not even go back with the British Boxing Board of Control.
“Get it out of your mind that it’s cemented that I’ll be going with you guys because I have a vast array of boards of control around the world with open arms welcoming (to me),” said Fury.
The 29 year-old has always had volatile dealings with Smith and the Board since breaking onto the British scene back in 2010. At the same time, a recent UK Anti-Doping hearing strained their relationship further.
Fury will need to be on good terms with the Board should he eventually want to challenge Anthony Joshua for his world titles.
However, Smith stipulated to Sky Sports News that he may require the boxer to undergo specific tests – including a mental evaluation.
“At present, his boxing license is suspended. We have to make sure that we are satisfied that he is healthy, mentally fit and physically fit before we permit him to box. (It’s) for his benefit,” pointed out Smith.
On the subject of whether Fury’s mental state is a cause for concern, Smith added: “Of course it is. There have been issues in the past which Tyson has admitted to. We have records and medical documentation with regard to that.
“We, as a responsible organization, have to make sure our boxers are fit and healthy.”
With an April comeback in mind, Fury still has some way to go to have everything in place for his return. It comes on the back of accepting a two-year backdated suspension from UKAD over a positive test for Nandrolone.
