EBU name Chisora for Teper, Bundu for Branco

‘Del Boy’ put himself back in the title picture with a 30-second victory over Beqa Lobjanidze last month and was placed as the EBU’s next in line as soon as he got back in the win column.

European rules state that anyone with a loss last time out cannot challenge for the title and Chisora was defeated by Tyson Fury at the back in of 2014 after previously picking up the belt from Edmund Gerber in September 2013.

Both parties are stated to be in negotiations, although no deadline has yet been set for an agreement.

Teper won the belt in spectacular fashion against Chisora’s UK rival Price to put an end to any hopes of the British pair meeting next.

In welterweight news, Paulie Malignaggi fell foul of the EBU’s ruling when he lost to Danny Garcia at the weekend and is no longer the mandatory challenger for fellow Italian Gianluca Branco.

The pair had agreed to meet in October before Malignaggi accepted a better offer to face Garcia in New York and ‘The Magic Man’ was duly stopped in the ninth round to also lose his place with the EBU.

Another Italian in Leonard Bundu has been drafted in to fight Branco once the champion makes an interim defence in September.

Former world title challenger Bundu enjoyed a three-year reign as European king from 2011 to 2014 and recently defeated Pablo Munguia to put a setback against Keith Thurman behind him.
