WBN Young Fighter of the Year (23 under)

World Title Prospect of 2017

Below are the nominations for Trainer of the Year 2016.

Abel Sanchez

From his notorious gym at ‘The Summit’ in Big Bear, Abel Sanchez is steadily building a stable of world class fighters. Star pupil is of course, Gennady Golovkin, although new cruiserweight world champion Murat Gassiev is just one of those to breakout in 2016, whilst heavyweight Andy Ruiz did his credentials no harm against Joseph Parker.

Arnulfo Obando (posthumously)

Trainer of pound for pound star Roman Gonzalez since 2010, Arnulfo Obando suffered a stroke in November and died at the age of just 54. Obando oversaw the rise of ‘Chocolatito’ and was enjoying the successes of his labour when his life was sadly cut short.

Shane McGuigan

At 28 years old, McGuigan is quickly building a reputation in the sport on the back of continued success with featherweight Carl Frampton. Now also training David Haye and George Groves, McGuigan could soon be overseeing a clutch of world title holders.

Winners of all WBN Awards will be announced in mid-January. Look out for more nominations in the coming days
