Joshua DISMISSES Povetkin, wants WBA mandatory DELAY as Wilder undisputed OFFER is prepared

The WBA stipulated Joshua has to agree a Povetkin fight by September 1st, although the Briton has announced he’s firmly fixed on an undisputed battle with the WBC ruler.

“I want that fight, no doubt about it. He was very vocal about wanting the fight before I was, because my objective was to accumulate every single one of the belts,” Joshua told Sky Sports News.

“Now I have done that, Wilder’s my 100 per cent attention. We’re about to make another offer to Wilder’s team – a very good offer that should create a lot of interest from Wilder.

“Hopefully that will stop a lot of his talking and whining, and he can step up to the plate.”

On the Povetkin challenge, Joshua added: “I’m not really interested in Povetkin, I’m interested in Wilder.

“But I do want to hold onto all the belts, because I want the opportunity to become undisputed heavyweight champion. Hopefully the Povetkin situation can be pushed onto a later date, in 2019.”

Joshua v Wilder is the hottest fight in boxing since the Gennady Golovkin v Canelo Alvarez fight fell apart and would be good for the fans to be given top priority.

After stating his desire to follow up on Wilder in the wake of his victory over Joseph Parker, the whole of the sport is waiting with baited breath for a deal to be signed.

Wilder’s advisor Shelly Finkel recently stated the only way the encounter wouldn’t happen would be down to Joshua himself.

“Deontay made it very clear, there’s nothing, but nothing that gets in the way of this fight from our side. Since Joshua said he would fight Deontay, that’s all we want! Deontay has instructed us to make that fight.

“We are not talking to anyone else, we are not negotiating with anyone else. We want to fight Joshua, we are ready. Tell us what to do, we have not heard anything?

“Deontay wants this fight next. He said he will fight in the UK.

“There is no reason why this fight should not happen unless they do not want it,” stressed Finkel to The Daily Star.
