EXCLUSIVE: Shannon Briggs accuses Tyson Fury of avoiding him, says he’d agreed to fight for £1

In a message posted on social media, Fury saluted Ring Magazine for their patience and support before vowing to come back better than ever. The Brit is targetting a comeback in the summer after almost two-and-a-half years out.

One person who has been linked to taking on Fury is none other than Shannon Briggs. The former WBO ruler who is still making a name for himself in his veteran years.

When asked for his reaction to this news, ‘The Cannon’ burst into laughter.

“He’s scared of me Joe, he’s so scared of me he gave up the title,” Briggs exclusively told World Boxing News.

“Can you believe it? I knew it, I told everyone to listen to me, they’re all scared. I got a t-shirt saying the champ loves the UK and on the back its got they’re scared of me champ, come on!

“He gave the title up last night at midnight because he didn’t want to fight me, so he wants to avoid me. I heard he said he agreed to the fight, I agreed to fight him for £1, he won’t even fight me for £1.

“This has once again proven that I’m running the division. They’re running away from me, I’m coming to the UK in two weeks’ time, I’m going to Manchester, I’m going to look for his house and I will find out where he lives.

“They have done everything possible to keep me out the game, they said I was crazy – which is true – they’ll do anything they can not to fight me. I’m the best ever champ. LET’S GO CHAMP.”

Regardless of whether a fight between himself and Fury materialises, the charismatic American has revealed the UK is where he sees his foreseeable future.

And Briggs, who boasts a phenomenal record of 53 KO’s in 67 professional bouts, is aiming to lace the gloves back up during the beginning of the summer.

“My next goal is to come back to the UK. My last fight was in the UK and my next fight will be in the UK. I’m looking at booking out the York Hall in May or June and do a comeback fight because this guy (Fury) is scared of me.

“I’m not taking this guy seriously, I’m just looking forward to coming back to my second home and putting on a show to build myself back up. I’m going to be fighting at the York Hall and then I’ll be fighting every month or two months. I’m going to Scotland, then Ireland, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, I’m going everywhere champ.”

The former world champion is now the ripe age of 46, however, don’t let that fool you. His passion, energy and desire to climb back up the mountain is truly refreshing, and time will tell whether he can secure the big fight he so desperately craves.

He has even predicted he could box for many years to come. He concluded: “I’m not 20-years-old, I’m not 26, I’m 46, but I still feel great and feel I have another good four years in front of me. I’m taking over the world, bringing positivity in telling people not to give up.”
