The Matchroom boss, who is mulling over a $50m offer from Wilder’s team to face his star fighter Anthony Joshua, says he’s heard the American is in advanced negotiations with his mandatory challenger.
Dominic Breazeale was recently appointed as Wilder’s stipulated opponent, although Hearn remains hopeful Wilder and Joshua will battle each other first.
“I still believe they (Wilder’s team) have agreed Dominic Breazeale next, in June or July. The WBC have told us that,” Hearn told Sky Sports News.
“They have said the mandatory will happen between Wilder and Breazeale, and the winner of Dillian Whyte vs Luis Ortiz will fight the winner of that. Maybe they’re just using it as a back-up.
“If (Anthony versus Wilder) is not made next, it has to be made after. But forget after and let’s just make it now!”
Wilder handed Joshua a deadline of midnight on Thursday (US time) but all has gone quiet since, leaving fans wondering if an announcement could be on the cards.
An undisputed heavyweight encounter is the number one contest in the sport right now and looks set to take place in Las Vegas at the end of 2018 should Joshua accept the Wilder deal on the table.
