World Boxing Association President Gilberto Mendoza met with WBC counterpart Mauricio Sulaiman to talk Deontay Wilder v Andy Ruiz Jr.
The pair, who have forged a working partnership since they took over from their fathers, seemed to be on the same page regarding Wilder battling Ruiz when speaking in Mexico.
Mendoza took advantage of his visit to meet with Sulaiman. He discussed various topics of world sporting events and committed to work hand in hand for the good of pugilism.
In the middle of the tribute to Ruiz, who holds the WBA Championship, the IBO, the IBF and WBO belts, both spoke about the possibility that the Mexican American native will face American Wilder.
They agreed that it is a fight that must be fought. That this will be the case when each one fulfills the immediate commitments that lie ahead.
“Ruiz is the first Mexican heavyweight champion in history. A warrior from Mexico always needs to have the WBC belt, as well as a Venezuelan WBA,” said Mendoza after his meeting with Sulaiman.
They both wanted the promoters to agree for the fight to be held, since it is the only thing that is missing once the organizations have given the green light to the possibility of confrontation.

The WBA and the WBC have always been sister organizations. Relying on the phrase of Don Gilberto Mendoza.
“We are going to do it, we can do it. Let’s do it together,” the two leaders pledged to join forces to make boxing a better sport in the short, medium, and long term.
Ruiz must first battle Anthony Josuha in a rematch, whilst Wilder has signed to face Luis Ortiz and Tyson Fury.
A Wilder v Ruiz undisputed unification could conceivably be in the cards by the summer of 2020. This is dependent on both champions remaining undefeated until then.
Mahmoud Charr and Trevor Bryan may have something to say ahead of their mandatory WBA encounter.
Dillian Whyte has been WBC number one for almost two years.
