Eddie Hearn ready to sign fighter who knocked out Anthony Joshua in spar

Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn is considering at least a one-fight deal with heavyweight puncher and Anthony Joshua tormentor Joey Dawejko.

WBN understands Hearn is looking to draft Dawejko in for ex-cruiserweight ruler Murat Gassiev’s debut at the weight in the summer.

Gassiev is set to return to action on the undercard of the massive 140 pound unification between Maurice Hooker and Jose Ramirez.

The World Super-Lightweight blockbuster is going down on Saturday July 27 at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

Hooker v Ramirez will be live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.

Following his sparring exploits against Joshua in Miami, Hearn could pit Gassiev against Dawejko on the undercard.

Dawejko, as WBN reported, gave Joshua kittens in training camp. Just days prior to Andy Ruiz Jr. completing his devastation at Madison Square Garden.

Many believe Joshua went into the fight with vulnerability stemming from being hurt when the pair traded blows.

Visible marks on Joshua’s face were brushed off as nothing by the Briton. Although ‘AJ’ looked a shadow of himself when being dropped four times by Ruiz.

Joshua surrendered his four world title belts on the night. Hearn is now working on the details of a rematch.

For Dawejko, the events are a considerable boost for his profile. The 28 year-old has been sworn to secrecy over his time spent with Joshua.

But Hearn’s imminent selection for Gassiev says a lot.

REVENGE

Hearn either wants revenge served by Gassiev or sees something in Dawejko he could potentially harness.

Should Dawejko manage a shock win over Gassiev, the potential is also there for a fight against Joshua in the future.

With seven losses on his record, Dawejko has possibly suffered a lack of motivation in the past. Elevation to the big leagues could be the catalyst to reigniting his passion to be more than a sparring partner.

The Philadelphian has to stop the rot of three straight losses first and attempt to harness the form that saw him draw with Jarrell Miller back in 2013.
