A World Boxing Association in-house heavyweight ‘title bout’ has been agreed between two of the organization’s ‘belt holders’.
Mahmoud Charr and Trevor Bryan, who both hold straps unrecognized at the top level of the sport, are set to battle it out to become the eventual mandatory challenger.
Whoever prevails from the impending Charr v Bryan battle will be in prime position to be named the next stipulation for Anthony Joshua.
This comes ahead of Joshua’s defense against Andy Ruiz Jr., which is a voluntary encounter.
Furthermore, the WBO and WBA are due to convene with the IBF on who’s number one faces Joshua later this year.
It seems likely to be Kubrat Pulev (IBF) or Oleksandr Usyk (WBO) first for Joshua. But Charr or Bryan can expect a shot at the unified king in 2020.
As Deontay Wilder continues to do his own thing, Joshua’s opponents are backing up.
Trading with Wilder or Brit rival Tyson Fury still seems to be a world away.
A WBA statement by Samuel Rosenberg read: The auction for the fight between WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight title-holder Manuel Charr and interim champ Trevor Bryan was suspended this week.
This comes after the two sides reached an agreement to fight for the belt of the World Boxing Association (WBA).
The dispute was scheduled for May 28th in Panama City. But the teams of the boxers informed that there was already a pact. They stated the fight will be held without the need to carry out the auction.

In an estimated period of 20 days, the place, date, and conditions of the fight will be communicated between the native of Syria and the American.
For months, the pair have been waiting for the opportunity to challenge each other.
Charr will make the first defense of the belt he won against Alexander Ustinov in November 2017.
The undefeated Bryan earned the right to face Charr after winning the interim belt in August of last year against BJ Flores. He now wants to fight for the regular belt.
The Syrian native champion Charr has a record of 31 wins, 4 losses, and 17 knockouts. While his undefeated challenger, Bryan, has a record of 20 wins, no losses, and 14 knockouts.
