Jack Flatley looks forward to Craig Morris title clash this weekend

Bolton’s Jack Flatley is predicting some great rounds of action when he co-headlines a double-title fight show this weekend at home venue, the Whites Hotel.

On Saturday, May 11, Flatley takes on Craig Morris for the English Light-Middleweight Title, while fellow Bolton man Jack Cullen gets Yorkshire’s Jack Sellars for the Middleweight version of the belt.

It’s a tough assignment for Flatley, in his first attempt at winning honours. Shropshire’s Morris has lost just twice in 14 fights – with one of those defeats coming to WBA International Champion Scott Fitzgerald.

And the 27-year-old already has previous title-winning form, having been the Midlands Area Champion in 2016.

With just a single draw the only blemish on his near-perfect 15-bout ledger, Flatley is confident heading into the biggest fight of his career.

The 24-year-old, known as ‘Quiet Storm’, is looking forward to fighting in front of a big, home crowd and, although he isn’t taking his eye off the ball, wants to be mixing with the big names of the domestic division – currently featuring the likes of Anthony Fowler, Ted Cheeseman and Sam Eggington – in the near future.

“I’ve seen quite a few of his fights” said Jack. “He boxed Fitzgerald, who’s obviously a good fighter, and took him 10 rounds. He seems like a good pressure fighter, and I’m expecting that from him.

“I’ve fought plenty of pressure fighters though, so it will suit me if he does come forward. But if he comes to box then I can deal with that too because I’ve had plenty of good sparring.

“It really does have all the makings of a great fight, because we’re both known to come forward and have all-action styles. I’m buzzing, I’ve sold plenty of tickets and it’s a big title to be fighting for, for my first one. It would mean everything to win it, especially in Bolton.

“Obviously, I’m focusing on Morris, because it’s a tough enough fight not to look past. I’ve got to be confident I’m going to win though and, as long as I come through, I want to be defending it then getting into British Title contention towards the end of this year.

“I want to be mixing with those big names. I’ve been in with them in the amateurs so if I win this English Belt then I’ll be ready to start thinking about mixing with them.”

“This is a really good show for Bolton,” said VIP Promotions’ Steve Wood. “It’s not often you’ll see two English Titles being contested on the same night, and to have two local lads fighting for these belts is great for the town.

“Both are in hard fights though and will need to put in top performances if they’re going to win. They’ve both sold lots of tickets, so the atmosphere will be excellent, and this will be a great night of boxing.”
