Oscar De La Hoya talks Canelo legacy, Dana White in boxing, GGG split

Oscar De La Hoya appeared on The Luke Thomas Show on SiriusXM Fight Nation this week and had some interesting things to say.

Speaking to RJ Clifford, who filled for Luke Thomas as host, De La Hoya talked about Canelo, Dana White getting into boxing, and especially on Abel Sanchez.

Gennady Golovkin recently announced he’d split with Sanchez, leading to a less than positive response from the coach.

Canelo is preparing for his clash with Danny Jacobs tonight, whilst Dana White met with De La Hoya rival Eddie Hearn during the week.

The pair had discussions leading to speculation White could take his Zuffa Boxing brand to DAZN.

Here’s what the Golden Boy boss had to say:

A new trainer for Golovkin is set to be announced in Johnathan Banks.

‘GGG’ battles Steve Rolls on June 8 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

CANELO v JACOBS

Recently, Golovkin gave his own views on several subjects.

On his predictions for Canelo vs. Jacobs: “I think it’s very hard to predict. It’s going to be a very important fight for the middleweight division and for boxing in general. It’s pretty even keel. Everyone has a chance. Everyone has a possibility to win. This is boxing, this is even stuff. It’s going to be an interesting fight no matter what.”

On Canelo’s recent comments on only fighting GGG again if he has a belt: “I think Canelo is not correct to say that. We have to see what’s going to happen. I’m hoping to fight him, title or not.”

On his thoughts re: Jarrell Miller: “Doping does exist in boxing. It’s a very unfortunate thing. I don’t have anything to say. Hopefully boxing will go on without the doping.”
