Two-weight world title ruler Canelo Alvarez has admitted a third fight with Gennady Golovkin could be off the cards for now.

Speaking ahead of his Cinco de Mayo clash with Daniel Jacobs, Canelo said his sole focus it picking up world title belts.

As Golovkin is bereft of a strap, Canelo could set his sights on the WBO champion, which at present is Demetrius Andrade.

“Look, the objective this year is to win all titles. My goal this year is to have all the belts,” explained Canelo. “If Golovkin has a belt before the end of the year, then yes, we’ll gladly fight him. If he doesn’t, see where it falls later, how it plays out.

Right now my first objective, goal, is May 4th to pick up that belt.

“We have a tough, difficult fight ahead of us. As a team, we have a goal. The objective of this year so to win all the belts. If Golovkin has a belt, then yes. Why not? We’ve given the fans two beautiful, great fights. Why not a third?”

Asked whether the fact people question his draw and victory over Golovkin bother him, Canelo added: “No, I don’t think about it. Doesn’t bother me.

“Look, people are always going to have their opinions and think and criticize, but that’s part of it. That’s part of the game.”

On the test which lies ahead of him, and a flood of Mexican support expected in Las Vegas, Canelo concluded: “It’s like all fights. Yes, obviously fighting on these important dates for my country, you know, May and September are very important for me.

“They motivate me. That are like all my fights. I love boxing and what I do, and that motivates me in all my fights.”

ANDRADE

‘GGG’ recently signed with DAZN, the TV network Canelo fights on. The objection for the Kazakh puncher may now be to beat Canelo to landing Andrade.

As WBN reported, Golovkin and the American are set to share a bill in June. Golovkin may be better served facing Andrade in order to cement another battle with his Mexican nemesis.

At present, Golovkin is being linked to facing lesser-known contenders in order to get back in the win column.

Brandon Adams was one name at the top of the pile. The Contender winner is said to be favoring a battle with Jermall Charlo.
