Joe Joyce v Daniel Dubois ordered for British title as Hughie Fury vacates

In a double move by the British Boxing Board of Control, the heavyweight division will begin to move forward in the United Kingdom.

Firstly, the BBBofC have accepted Hughie Fury’s decision to vacate the top division championship.

HEAVYWEIGHT (Vacant) Hughie Fury relinquished the above Championship due to injury. The Stewards will consider this division at a later date.

Fury has ruled since May 2018 but was yet to make a defence despite several rulings by the Board. Finally, Fury has moved aside for the next contenders in line.

The younger cousin of Tyson Fury was originally ordered to face Joe Joyce until deciding to leave the Lonsdale Belt behind.

Joyce remains in line for a shot, although Frank Warren promoted Daniel Dubois has now been put forward to fight the Olympic silver medalist for the available strap.

HEAVYWEIGHT (Vacant) Joe Joyce v Daniel Dubois The Stewards decided to put out the above contest to purse bids in short terms to be submitted in accordance with the Terms and Conditions to the Board’s Head Office by 12:00noon on Wednesday, 10th April 2019, the contest to take place by the end of July 2019.

Warren, who has guided Dubois to 10-0 as a pro, welcomed the move. Dubois must first come through Richard Lartey next month at Wembley Arena.

“Delighted the board has ordered Daniel Dubois v Joe Joyce,” said Warren. “Daniel has a tough fight on April 27 first up but we asked for the fight.

“Daniel wants it and we will reach out to Team Joyce to try and make it happen this summer. A big heavyweight night for British boxing,” he added.

GORMAN

The only problem with Warren’s plan could be the fact that Joyce recently won a WBA eliminator. ‘The Juggernaut’ may well be in line for a chance at ‘Regular’ title holder Manuel Charr.

Should Joyce negate on the opportunity, it could well be Dubois rival Nathan Gorman who is called up instead.

Plans are already in place for Dubois and Gorman to meet by the end of this year. Adding the UK belt into the mix would make it all the more tasty.

Both Dubois and Gorman have previously expressed their interest in a meeting.
