DAZN announce monthly price increase, drop for long-term subscription

Streaming Service DAZN will increase the price of its subscription to $19.99 if current and future purchasers choose to pay on a monthly basis.

The announcement, which will come into effect across the board in March 2020, will see the price double for some of its buyers.

Those who choose to pay via a yearly subscription can now pay even less. DAZN is offering the opportunity to pay $99.99 for a whole year. A saving of over $1.50 per month.

There’s no official link between the recent signings of Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin. Both recently signed contracts ahead of a trilogy fight.

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder recently turned down a nine-figure deal to join the middleweights on the platform.

At the recent announcement for Golovkin’s addition, DAZN Group Executive Chairman John Skipper outlined his vision.

On DAZN having a shelf life, Skipper said: “It’s wrong, we’re committed to this, we’re well capitalized. We’re going to see the results. We already saw the result from the December fight, which we only had a couple weeks to promote.

“It did very well for us. If we can follow that up with the fights we’re going to have in May and June and later this fall. We have a very viable financial proposition, so they’re wrong.”

SUBSCRIPTIONS

On how he feels about the number of subscriptions, he added: “I will be at a ten (out of ten). But I don’t know when exactly, but I will be at a ten.

“We have had good success and one landmark event and that’s the Canelo fight.

“I expect to have four to five landmark events this year and to move to from my current three or four, which means I’m satisfied with where I need to be towards knowing what we need to accomplish in the long run and that’s when I’ll be at a ten,” concluded Skipper.

DAZN launched last September and has enjoyed a six-month period on growth.
