DAZN Chairman committed to giving fans Canelo v Gennady Golovkin III

DAZN Executive Chairman John Skipper is determined to secure a third fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin in the future.

Upon signing Golovkin to a lucrative six-fight deal last week, Skipper will attempt to push through a trilogy fight with Canelo later this year.

Canelo is currently locked into a May 4th unification clash with Daniel Jacobs. Upon the completion, Skipper has another explosive episode of the saga in store.

“Our intentions are to bring fans the best fights and the fights they most want to see,” outlined Skipper.

“A third fight between Gennady and Canelo is what fans want to see. We’re focused right now on May 4 with Canelo and Daniel Jacobs.

“Jacobs happens to be a DAZN fighter. We’re focused on the fight Gennady will have in June. Which we also expect to be a difficult fight.

“He’s only interested in fighting appropriate opponents. So we’re going to focus on those fights and see what happens,” he added.

Golovkin has been linked to facing Demetrius Andrade in the past. It looks likely Andrade will now battle Maciej Sulecki over the summer.

A lesser name would possibly be on the cards in order to ensure the Canelo fight has another chapter. Although ‘GGG’ has never been one to shirk a challenge.

So is it possible for Golovkin to take a title of his own into battle with Canelo?

Unlikely, as Rob Brant is the sole available champion.

Brant currently competes on ESPN with Top Rank. The American would probably be off the menu for Golovkin.

Only Golovkin’s old IBO belt remains up for grabs. Whilst IBO President Ed Levine does boast a special relationship with the Kazakh puncher.

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman would put an interim or Diamond championship on the line. But only if mandatory challenger Jermall Charlo is in the opposite corner.

That scenario would depend on DAZN and Al Haymon reaching an agreement.

As proven recently with Deontay Wilder, that could be a tough ask.

It’s argued that TV networks are currently responsible for many fights not happening for the good of the sport.

Wilder v Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are just two of those examples.
