Hearn: Ali, Frazier, Marciano and Tyson – now it’s Joshua’s MSG turn

Eddie Hearn is looking forward to Anthony Joshua making his US debut after securing a fight with Jarrell Miller this summer.

Joshua witnessed the Madison Square Garden atmosphere for himself last December when Canelo crushed Rocky Fielding.

Months on, and Joshua scrapped plans to fight Dillian Whyte to seal his American dream.

Hearn is now eager to see his number one charge following in the footsteps of some of the sport’s biggest names.

“It’s been an eventful few months. I’m delighted that Anthony Joshua will make his American debut at the iconic Madison Square Garden on June 1,” said Hearn.

“When you look at the Heavyweight greats that have graced the renowned ‘Mecca of Boxing.’ The names of Ali, Frazier, Marciano, and Tyson stand firm. June 1 will be a moment when the World will witness AJ’s turn.”

BIG BABY

On the threat Miller poses, Hearn added: “Jarrell Miller is someone I know well, having been involved in his last four fights in America.

“I know how much he wants this fight. I know the belief that he and his team have in beating AJ.

“He is a mountain of a man with an incredible work rate. He will get the chance to challenge for four World Heavyweight belts in his backyard this summer.

“They went to head for all the wrong reasons last Summer. They will do it again as we get ready for the big build-up for a momentous moment on June 1st at MSG.”

A win for Joshua pushes him closer to the big two in the division. That’s once mandatory duties against Kubrat Pulev are completed.

The Briton will then have one window of opportunity before facing Manuel Charr, Fres Oquendo, or Trevor Bryan under the WBA stipulation next year.

The WBA announced a four-man tournament earlier this year. One of those named was Miller. The American will now be replaced.

Next in line is ironically Whyte. With Joe Joyce following at number five with the WBA.
