World Boxing News provides an update on the returns of talented fighters Mick Conlan and Shawn McCalman in the coming days.

Mick Conlan

The Return of the Mick is almost here.

Featherweight contender Michael “Mick” Conlan (16-1, 8 K.O.s), the two-time Irish Olympian and Belfast native, makes his long-awaited ring return this Saturday, August 6, in the 10-round main event against Miguel Marriaga (30-5, 26 K.O.s) at The SSE Arena Belfast.

Conlan hopes to rebound from his dramatic 12th-round stoppage defeat to Leigh Wood, while Marriaga, a three-time world title challenger, is on the hunt for a fourth shot at the brass ring.

Fight week kicked off Wednesday with a media workout in Downtown Belfast, and Conlan went through the paces in front of an adoring crowd.

The fans will pack The SSE Arena Belfast in three days for the fourth hometown bout of Conlan’s career.

A loaded fight card, headlined by Conlan-Marriaga, will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ at 2 p.m. E.T./11 a.m. P.T. Irish welterweight sensation Paddy “Real Deal” Donovan (8-0, 6 K.O.s).

Also, rising featherweight Kurt Walker (2-0, 1 K.O.) and junior middleweight standout Kieran Molloy (1-0, 1 K.O.) will see action in separate bouts.

U.K. and Irish fans can catch the card on FITE TV.

Boxing News – Shawn McCalman

Undefeated Colorado super middleweight “The Amazing” Shawn McCalman (11-0, 6 K.O.s), arguably boxing’s best-kept secret outside of the Rocky Mountain, returns this Saturday night.

McCalman fights outdoors at Century Casino in Central City, Colorado. It’s a six-round, co-featured event against Mexican Ulisses “El Cerillo” Jimenez (24-30-1).

Co-trained by former world champion Vernon Phillips and residing in Aurora, Colorado, McCalman was a standout amateur who compiled a 65-7 record.

It includes top honors in three Colorado State Golden Gloves tournaments.

The 28-year-old McCalman turned pro back in September of 2018. Despite COVID-19 restrictions, he’s remained busy with four fights in each of the last two years.

Saturday’s fight will mark his third in 2022.

During the summer of 2021, McCalman won a 6-round decision against Vaughn “The Animal” Alexander (15-5) to capture the American Boxing Federation (ABF) West Super Middleweight Championship.

In his most recent fight this past March in Cheyenne, Wyoming, McCalman defeated previously undefeated Marquis Moore (10-0]. He won by way of an 8-round unanimous decision (80-72, 78-74, 77-75).

“Shawn has flown under the radar and sneaking into the rankings,” McCalman’s manager Ryan Roach (Fighter Locker) said. “We have positioned him perfectly in 10 fights. He will be a scary fighter for many of his division’s top guys.

“Shawn has speed and power, and he is a big man who has been in with some good opponents, including undefeated fighters.

“He had a very good camp. I never like looking ahead during fight week. But if we take care of business, I think it makes sense to challenge someone in the top 10.

“We will see after this fight. We’ll see after this fight.”
