After beating Mayweather at 54-0, Wanheng loses three out of four

Wanheng Menayothin was on the brink of history when overtaking Floyd Mayweather’s 50-0 in 2018. He even went on to 54-0.

However, in his last four fights, the former WBC minimumweight champion has lost three times. The most recent was on Wednesday against Knockout CP Freshmart.

Wanheng losses

Menayothin, who lost his world title to Panya Pradabsri in 2020, aimed to take the WBA version from Freshmart.

The Thailand star came unstuck against his fellow countryman, though. On the scorecards, he lost 119-109, 117-111, and 116-112.

All three judges, Prommase Chakshuraksha, Carlos Costa, and Armando Garcia, were in unison with the final verdict.

The fight took place at the Chonburi Provincial Ground in Thailand.

Knockout CP Freshmart

Freshmart was the better fighter on the night. Menayothin now has a big decision regarding his future.

He retired once previously on 53-0. He was then enticed back by Golden Boy Promotions with a lucrative United States deal before beating Simpiwe Konkco.

Oscar De La Hoya had big plans for Menayothin after hailing the signing. The fighter was keen to prove he deserved his Floyd Mayweather record to the US audience.

“I am delighted that the Golden Boy has allowed me to get more exposure overseas,” said Wanheng, also known as Chayaphon Moonsri.

“I felt excited when I learned that I would fight abroad. It will be my very first time fighting outside my home country.

“This will not only be to prove myself but also to make the world know and recognize me as the great world champion in this division.”

Golden Boy

Sadly, Golden Boy’s Eric Gomez gave an update after one year and only one win due to the pandemic.

“We learned that Wanheng was frustrated by inactivity due to the pandemic and was considering retirement.

“Then he talked to his people. He decided to continue boxing.

“We will support him as we want to bring him to the United States so that people can see how talented he is.”

Wanheng had to remain in Asia and compete there.

“Once we get back to action, we can find him a fight. For now, we are happy that he has not retired. He is ready to defend the world title.

“When you have a fighter like him, with a remarkable record, it is very exciting. He really is an excellent fighter. He was the best in his division.

“People in the US will be very interested in seeing him fight,” added Gomez.

Floyd Mayweather record

The American dream shattered in his second fight under the Golden Boy banner. He lost to Pradabsri, and the Mayweather record was gone.

A win over the unheralded Jinnawat Rienpit followed before a defeat to Pradabsri in the rematch.

Another victory over Rienpit got scrubbed off as his opponent got knocked out in his last fight before the 30-day rule. Wanheng then fought Freshmart this week and dropped to 55-3.

He never fought in the United States.

As for Freshmart, he’s now 24-0 and riding the crest of a wave. Knockout could now consider a move up in weight after spending his entire career at 105 pounds.
