Eddie Hearn ridiculed over Errol Spence vs Terence Crawford ‘hot take’

Eddie Hearn made statements regarding Errol Spence vs. Terence Crawford that came back to bite him.

The Matchroom promoter, who is in charge of putting some fights on streaming platform DAZN, said Canelo vs. GGG 3 was ten times bigger than Spence vs. Crawford.

Now, considering Errol Spence vs. Terence Crawford is one of the two most sought-after events in the sport, Hearn faced the wrath of boxing fans – especially stateside.

Spence vs. Crawford is a must-see event, alongside Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol. There are no fights bigger than those two right now.

However, Hearn got a dressing down from Ishe Smith and Leonard Ellerbe, the latter of whom labeled the Essex man ‘comical’ for his ‘hot take.’

“Eddie Hearn has blown through so much damn money! – He wasted all that money only to watch Devin [Haney] go elsewhere and become undisputed,” said Smith.

“Canelo and GGG are not bigger than Crawford vs. Spence. You have to start taking what Hearn says with a grain of salt.”

Smith explained why: “I’m not speaking revenue; I’m just talking in general.

“The DAZN fiasco hasn’t panned out for boxing. They don’t have any superstars, honestly, besides Canelo and AJ.”

Ellerbe, who has a track record of cringing when Hearn speaks, stated: “He’s just trying to bring attention to a fight that nobody cares about.

“It’s an old-school tactic that’s played out, and he hasn’t caught on that nobody in the US cares [about Canelo vs. GGG 3]. It works in the UK, but not in the US though.

“This is just a hot take to get some riled up. Honestly, he’s doing his job. He knows nobody cares about this fight. This is just promotion [from Hearn].

“Anybody with the least bit of common sense knows that. That works over in the UK but not in the US.

Leonard Ellerbe Eddie Hearn

“Fans want to see fights, not a promoter. The cover is off, and the con is over. Numbers don’t lie and never will.

“Some want to shoot the messenger and overlook the facts. But the bottom line is that Spence vs. Crawford is the fight people want to see.

“[Hearn] is just trying to bring attention to a fight that the diehards don’t care about.

“I get it, but I’m the one person he can’t run that on. I was solely referring to trying to build up a fight nobody cares about. It’s comical at this point.”
