Daniel Dubois has his next opponent lined up after claiming the WBA secondary heavyweight title in Miami on Saturday night.
Contrary to reports that the Briton would get a shot at the winner of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua II, the WBA already confirmed an eliminator for the strap now owned by the Dubois.
This stipulation means Dubois will battle whoever comes out on top between Hughie Fury and Michael Hunter.
Fury and Hunter collide on July 2nd. The winner will be mandatory for Dubois’ belt. Therefore, Dubois will have to defend the strap against Fury or Hunter later this year.
Only then will the eventual champion get mandated for the WBA Super heavyweight title held by Usyk.
After the fight, Dubois celebrated as if he’d won the bonafide championship. In reality, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who sees “DDD” as a top division ruler.
“The only words are ‘and the new’, and I am so glad it is now. It is happening now. We have made it real, my dad and my family, I’ve done everyone proud, the country, and I can’t wait,” said Dubois.
“In the first round, I was trying to figure him out and see what he had. I said I was going to test the chin and just went for it.
“He brought out something in me. He brought out a wicked left hand! It was a punch-perfect ending, and I am just so happy. I had a few rough patches during this camp, but we pulled through and got the victory.”
On winning a ‘world title,’ Dubois added: “I am just so happy to have got this world title. This win is what all the hard work was for leading up to the fight. No disrespect to Trevor, but his 0 had to go. I was just in there on a demolition mission.
“It has been amazing. I dreamed of coming out here and winning a world title as a little kid, and now it has finally happened.”

Revealing his mini hitlist, neither Usyk nor Joshua appeared to be on the mind of the Londoner.
“I am ready for whoever is next. I believe this will instantly make me a better fighter now. When you win the world title, they say you become next level, so names like Dillian Whyte and Joseph Parker are on my hit list. I will fight whoever Frank puts me in with next.”
Outgoing ‘champion’ Bryan stated: “I’m feeling alright. I knew he would come out with big punches, and I was trying to land some and let him tire himself out. But I wasn’t shooting my jab enough.”
Joe Joyce, the current number one with the WBO and the man who beat Dubois, is likely to be sanctioned for a title shot before the WBA gets their opportunity.
