Edgar Berlanga says sorry for Mike Tyson bite

Undefeated contender Edgar Berlanga said sorry to his fans for attempting to bite his opponent Alexis Angulo on Saturday night.

“The Chosen One” caused gasps at the Hulu Theater for his actions as he lunged towards Angulo’s earlobe like Mike Tyson did against Evander Holyfield.

Luckily, Berlanga pulled out at the last minute.

In his post-fight interview, Berlanga attempted to play down his lack of discipline, including a headbutt after the bell.

He said: “He was throwing elbows. I was about to do a Mike Tyson on him. He kept throwing his elbows, and I didn’t want to get cut.”

MIKE TYSON BITE

With time to reflect, Berlanga addressed the incident further on Sunday.

“I want to apologize for my actions and what I said yesterday about the Mike Tyson bite,” Berlanga stated.

“I was in the moment and got a little ahead of myself. It doesn’t take away from the embarrassment that I have caused myself, my team, Top Rank, and many others.

“I reacted poorly and took full responsibility. Moving forward, I will be more mindful and encouraging in my behavior. Once again, I do apologize.”

EDGAR BERLANGA HEADLINER

Berlanga faced accusations of choking his first Madison Square Garden headliner after the bout despite winning a decision in a hard-fought battle with Angulo.

Xander Zayas’ withdrawal put extra pressure on Berlanga to perform. However, his days of being the next best thing seem to have faded into obscurity with fans and media in 2022.

A world title shot looks to be in the pipeline by 2023 for Berlanga, who needs to address his actions when things don’t go his way.
