Hughie Fury seemed to confirm his desire to fight anyone with a heavyweight title belt, which puts cousin Tyson Fury in the firing line.
The new BOXXER recruit, the top 200-plus pounder on Sky Sports, outlined his ambitions ahead of a clash with Tyson’s former opponent Christian Hammer.
Hughie is laying down a blueprint to another title shot, having missed out against Joseph Parker back in 2017.
Now, as he embarks on a new chapter, Fury is ready to secure the biggest names in boxing’s glamor division.
“This team will put me where I need to be as before I couldn’t get the fights. Now I believe I can get them,” Hughie told Sky Sports.
“Straight away with Hammer, I said: These are the fights I want. He is a game fighter.”
Placing Tyson clearly in his path for the first time after previously denying they’d ever trade blows, Hughie certainly didn’t rule out facing his estranged family member.
“Whoever has got a belt [Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, at the moment], I want those belts. I will get through this fight, get into a mandatory position, and whoever has got a belt at the time [if Tyson or AJ], I’ll take.
“I love a fight. I’m not afraid of any challenge. I will jump in the ring with anyone.”
On making Hammer the first step in the next part of his journey, Hughie concluded: “I could have had easier fights, but I want someone who will fight back and give me a challenge.
“I believe I will be the champion of the world. It is my destiny to be at the top. To become a world champion is all that’s in my mind.”
Tyson is currently training to defend his title against Deontay Wilder in a trilogy collision on October 9th.
Should he come through that, Dillian Whyte or Anthony Joshua could be next in 2022. Hughie faces a long road to even getting a shot, though.
At present, it looks improbable that the cousins will fight. However, Hughie’s comments will not go unnoticed in Tyson’s world.
