World Boxing News is saddened to report two world-class boxers in Zab Judah and Felipe Orucuta are currently being treated in hospital.
American Judah, 41, and 33 year-old Mexican Orucuta both fought on Friday night and have since been worked on by doctors.
Reports are sketchy on Judah, whilst Orucuta is said to be the more serious of the pair.
Judah, who shipped over 300 head punches in losing to Cletus Seldin in eleven, was originally said to be in a critical condition.
It’s since been revealed Judah may in fact not be a serious as first thought.
A post retweeted by ESPN’s Steve Kim from @suziec611 has shed new light on the situation of Judah.
Zab Judah hospitalized
“Just confirmed Zab Judah from family he is not in a coma but he is in the hospital. He is in good spirits. Zab was not feeling well after his fight and decided to take the extra step of precautions to make sure he physically okay.”
A statement has since been released to the media by Carl Moretti, who worked with Judah in the past.
Moretti spoke to Judah’s mother and gave information to reports Kevin Iole and Kim.
“Zab was never in an induced coma. He had bleeding on the brain but did CAT scan today and swelling went down a little. He is eating, walking and talking.”
In an exclusive interview with WBN prior to the fight, Judah had been in confident mood.
He stated: “I came into the game in 1996 as a professional at 140lbs. It’s 2019 and I’m competing. Still campaigning at 140lbs! They always say, ‘Zab Judah’s not disciplined’, but if you don’t call that discipline – I don’t know what discipline is.
“Let me put a little bit of butter on top of the croissant. In 1993 I won my first Golden Gloves at 139lbs. I’ve seen Madonna take off for 3-4 years and turn into the Goodyear blimp!
“You’re only as old as you feel. I learned that the power of words is super-powerful. The moment you start uttering out your mouth that you’re old or getting older. When you put that in your mind and the universe – your body reacts to that.”
ORUCUTA
Also in a bad way is Orucuta, who was badly knocked out by Jonathan Rodriguez in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.
Orucuta has been operated on due to the seriousness of his ailment and is in an induced coma, according to an update by WBC.
“The World Boxing Council has been in communication with the family of Felipe Orucuta. (Speaking) with the combat supervisor, Dr. José Luis Ibarra, as well as with the medical services of the hospital in Uruapan.
“Surgery was performed to remove a blood clot in his brain, which was successful. Felipe will be in an induced coma.
“There will be no additional information during the following 48 hours during the process of evaluating its evolution. We join in prayers.”
