Andy Ruiz Jr. v Anthony Joshua II negotiations to begin for 2019 rematch

A rematch is already on the cards after what was an action-packed battle between two big-hitting heavyweights in Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua.

Down four times, Joshua was dethroned by Ruiz in a barnstorming clash at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed a clause in the contract has now been enforced.

“After meetings with AJ (Anthony Joshua), Rob Mc (Robert McCracken, Joshua’s manager/trainer) and the management team in NY, we have today triggered the contracted rematch clause with Andy Ruiz Jnr.

“The fight will take place in November or December at a venue to be confirmed shortly,” stated Hearn.

Due to his shock triumph, Ruiz now holds four world titles. Those championships are effectively in lieu. That is until the Mexican shows he can defeat Joshua again in a second fight.

Should the 29 year-old manage a repeat in the UK encounter later this year, representative Al Haymon would then hold all the marbles in the top division.

WBC champion Deontay Wilder is expected to lobby with Haymon for an undisputed unification in 2020. That’s provided Ruiz cements his position.

Wilder’s return with Tyson Fury is scheduled to happen in early 2020. It could either be put on hold for Wilder to take on Ruiz. Or the winner could be promised a shot at the new ruler by Haymon.

It’s a situation Hearn cannot allow to happen under any circumstances. Joshua must exact revenge or face being locked out of the straps.

SNICKERS

Meanwhile, Ruiz has been approached by Snickers following an extensive campaign to pick up some sponsorship from his favorite brand.

Months ago, Ruiz was filmed eating a Snickers before hitting over 900 on a punch machine. Ever since then, Ruiz has been synonymous with the chocolate bar.

Finally, upon becoming the world heavyweight champion, Snickers have vowed to show Ruiz love in the form of a special package.

A more permanent tie-up between Ruiz and Snickers is expected moving forward.

As a second installment looms, Joshua will be expected to ‘get some nuts’ in order to take back his previously owned title belts.
