Love Island star Idris Virgo struggles before technical draw in boxing return

Former Love Island reality TV star Idris Virgo found himself in a sticky situation against Rene Molik.

He looked a distinct second best before the fight was stopped due to an accidental head clash – resulting in a technical-draw.

In the first UB3 quarter-final, Kieron Conway expertly boxed and countered his way to a semi-final spot with a points win over the relentless, Kaan Hawes.

Conway’s punch selection was excellent and he showed why he’s tonight’s betting favourite. It was scored 30-27 on all three judges’ cards.

Next up, Derrick Osaze won a clear first-round against Tey Lynn-Jones before knocking him down with an overhand right in the second.

The ‘Punching Preacher’ coasted through the third to see out a points win of 29-27 on all three cards.

In a classic boxer vs. puncher match-up, Grant Dennis sat behind his jab and judged the distance in the first before putting his shots together in the second round.

A huge right sealed the deal in the final round causing a referee stoppage with Joe Hurn looking unsteady. The boxer TKO’d the puncher!

Fan-favourite and big ticket-seller, Sean Phillips blitzed his way through the aggressive Josh Groombridge with a first-round stoppage.

The twenty-two-year-old forced the referee to stop the fight with Groombridge on the ropes and taking too much punishment. In doing so, he conserved valuable energy for the rest of the tournament.

NXTGEN RESULTS

Fabio Wardley took Dennis Lewandowski out in the third round of a complete mismatch.

Despite Lewandowski taking future Tyson Fury foe Tom Schwarz the distance, the German looked massive – and massively out of his depth.

Bloodied and beaten, Lewandowski was waved off cowering in the corner.

Former world title challenger Stephen Smith got back in the groove with some much-needed rounds.

‘Swifty’ took every session from late replacement Des Newton as class told throughout the fight. Smith won 60-54.

Cruiserweight prospect Chris Billam-Smith was too strong for Yassine Habachi. Billam-Smith forced the stoppage after three. At super lightweight, Dalton Smith won every round on his pro debut.

Over six rounds at super lightweight, Atif Shafiq dominated Arturo Lopez in the opener as he moved to 21-2.

Charles Frankham began his pro stint with a 40-37, whilst in a floater, super featherweight Raymond Ford took every round of four against Aleksandrs Birkenbergs. Ford is now 2-0.
