Elhem Mekhaled is hoping to build on her recent victory where she claimed the interim WBC world champion súper-featherweight.
According to promoter Mehdi Ameur, Mekhaled keen to open talks with full title holder Eva Wahlstrom for a meeting this year.
Wahlstrom recently lost her undefeated run against Katie Taylor up at lightweight. But the Scandinavian remains in possession of the green and gold belt.
Ameur had contacted Walhstrom’s promoter Roy Jones Jr. and wants talks to take place, or at least a decision to be made on vacating the coveted strap.
“Elhem is proper elegance and she represents the noble art and his values,” Ameur explained exclusively to World Boxing News.
“In her last fight, the Spanish boxing public saw just how good she can be. It was a VIP Boxing experience with only table at the luxury venue in Hotel W, Barcelona.
“We want the WBC world title. For now, I am waiting for the decisión of Roy Jones Jr, Eva’s promotor, to see if they are interested to fight Elhem in June or July.
“Elhem Mekhaled is ready to fight and take Eva’s title. She is very strong and determined to win this fight.
“It’s a real Dream for her to become (full) WBC world champion and go to Mexico with her belt. I have no doubts she will make it happen.
“We know Eva Wahlstrom is a very very good fighter. She has big and real experience as she proved against Katie Taylor. But Elhem wants to become a legend like Muhammed Ali or Marvin Hagler. She is determined and she knows what she wants. It’s really easy to promote her.
“She has the Eye of the Tiger. I mean, where can you find a fighter like her?
“Elhem is a unique person, and for that, she will become in a legend. Nobody will stop her, be sure of that!
“Boxing is not only a sport for her. It’s also a job,” he added.
At 28 and boasting a 12-0 record, the sky is the limit for Mekhaled. Wahlstrom may have other plans, but it will be interesting to see if she accepts the challenge.
